The Lead Coaches at Trail running Guides are Stephen Pearson and Graeme Woodward who are highly qualified UK Athletics Coaches with a vast experience of developing athletes in all types of running. Both have coached athletes to International level, are involved with the England U16 Fell & Mountain Development Squad and are Lead Tutors for UK Athletics and the Fell Runners Association, being responsible for the delivery of all fell, mountain and trail running coaching courses in England.

 

Stephen Pearson

Stephen Pearson has been an active fell runner and orienteer for the past 20 years in which time he has had category success in both the Saunders LMM and Capricorn “0” events.

As a level 4 Endurance Coach and accredited UK Athletics Coach Education Tutor he applies the principles learned from studying Food and Nutrition and Leisure and Sports Science at Birmingham and Bolton Universities respectively.  This has resulted in athletes achieving national success and National selection for both track and fell running events.

He is currently the Head Coach at Horwich RMI Harriers and is actively involved in coaching athletes of all abilities in all endurance events from 5k park runs to ultra distance events.  This has enabled him to build an extensive knowledge of coaching endurance athletes. This includes, session planning, strength & conditioning, nutrition, periodisation, running economy and goal setting for all aspects of Trail, Road, Cross Country and Fell running.

As an experienced and qualified Mountain Leader he is able to lead groups into outdoor environments that will challenge both experienced and novice athletes.

 

 

Graeme Woodward

Graeme has been trail and fell running since the early 1980’s, with vast experience of running in the UK and abroad in races and mountain marathons. He has UK Athletics Level 3, UKSCA Strength and Conditioning Accreditation and is both a UK Athletics and RFL Coach Education Tutor. He has coached athletes in many sports other than running to European and professional level, including winter sports, ski mountaineering, martial arts, track and field, aquatics, triathlon, squash and rugby league.

He currently coaches at Calder Valley Fell Runners and as a  Strength & Conditioning coach with Optimize Fitness Ltd and Halifax RLFC.

Outside of running, Graeme has a wide experience of adventure sports especially sub aqua diving, mountaineering, off piste skiing and ski touring in the UK, Europe, North America and Africa. His specialisms include injury prevention and rehabilitation, video analysis of running technique, speed and agility, fitness testing and performance profiling.
